The United States merchant marine forces matured during the maritime history of the United States (1900–1999). ==1900s, first decade== In 1905, the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW, or "the Wobblies") was founded, representing mainly unskilled workers. "The Wobblies," a force in American labor only for about 15 years, were largely routed by the Palmer Raids after World War I.
